"This year, we honor the Reverend Canon Andrew White, known as the Vicar of Baghdad, for his extraordinary strides in reconciliation and restoration in the face of overwhelming challenges.

Canon White serves as the vicar of St. George’s Church, located in the heart of Baghdad, Iraq. He has built a positive relationship with the government and people of Iraq on every level, from grassroots to the business community to the military. Located in the city's Red Zone, his church serves 6,000 Iraqi citizens each week — a stunning number for a country with a 97% Muslim population.

Canon White is also President of The Foundation of Relief and Reconciliation in the Middle East, which serves as a model for building reconciliation amid extreme conflict and chaos. Canon White has lived with multiple sclerosis since his diagnosis in 1997."
