We expect him to stand by it

“We’ve seen several red lines put forward by the president, which went along and became pinkish as time grew, and eventually ended up completely white,” said Prince Turki al-Faisal, the former intelligence chief of Saudi Arabia. “When that kind of assurance comes from a leader of a country like the United States, we expect him to stand by it.” He added, “There is an issue of confidence.”

The Kurds are the leading force in the fight against ISIS.

“Kurdish forces are fighting valiantly to defend their homes and push back the extremist threat,” Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Ron Prosor, told the 15-nation body during the debate on persecuted religious minorities.
“The Kurds are the leading force in the fight against ISIS. They have shown tremendous courage and fortitude. The Kurds need the support of the international community and they deserve political independence.”

Friday ohhh bloody friday - Hassaka, Rojava 2003-2015

Friday evening, the 20. of march, I was present at a joyous kurdish Newroz – kurdish Newyear - gathering at Rådhuspladsen in the heart of Copenhagen, just outside the city hall. The (danish) kurds were so glad! Smiling faces, beaming with excitement and joy. Men and women exchanging hugs and kisses. Little children clothed in colourful kurdish dress, kurdish flags fluttering all over... some music and dancing and the traditional kurdish Newroz fire! Among the invited speakers were danish MPs: Mogens Lykketoft, Holger K Nielsen, Bertel Haarder. All three of them have shown interest in kurdish issues. Danish kurd Özlem Cekic, MP, was also present. I enjoyed the crowd. It was a privilege to stand there among these beautiful people. I am grateful that they call Denmark ”home” – as I think many of them do, even as they still cherish their own ancient cultural traditions.

Friday, ohh bloody friday

But there is also a very sad note to this day. A few hours later the shocking news hit the headlines: The same evening at least 47 kurds were brutally murdered by the enemy, ISIS, in Hassaka in Rojava – ”A de facto autonomous region in northern and north-eastern Syria” with a majority of kurds i - in a evil devilish twin carbomb attack targeting the dancing and celebrating kurds.
The car bombs detonated during celebrations of Nowruz, the Iranian/Persian and Kurdish new year, when Kurds gather for games, food and dancing. Among Kurds, the  ancient spring festival commemorates the death of a tyrant about 2,500 years ago. In Syria, it also gives members of the stateless ethnic minority a chance to celebrate their identity.” Quote: International Business Times. ii
A sad way to end this festival, which is such a happy occasion for the amazing kurds.

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon later issued this statement:

Statement attributable to the Spokesman of the Secretary-General
on attacks in Al-Hasakah,
Syria
New York, 20 March 2015
The Secretary-General
condemns the attacks targeting Nowruz celebrations in AlHasakah
City
in northeast
Syria today. Initial reports suggest that two separate bombings killed and injured
up to 100 persons, including women and children. These heinous attacks took place during a
holiday that is customarily a time for Kurdish communities to come together to share their
hopes for the new year. The Secretary-General
extends his deepest condolences to the
bereaved families and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured.
The SecretaryGeneral
takes note of the reports linking ISIL/Daesh to the attacks. The terrorist
organization’s despicable agenda includes efforts to incite sectarian and ethnic division among
Syria’s diverse communities. It must not be allowed to succeed.
The Secretary-General
reiterates his condemnation of all acts of violence against civilians in
Syria, and his demand that all sides in this brutal conflict stop the use of indiscriminate
weapons in populated areas.”

A graphic and hearbreaking video shot in the immediate aftermath of the attack appeared shortly after on YouTube.

Three days of mourning

Three days of mourning was declared the next day by the administrations in Rojava:

Three days of mourning have been declared across Rojava in memory of the victims of yesterday’s bombing attacks on Newroz celebrations in city of Hasekê (Al-Hasakah), The declaration was made by the general coordinating body of the three canton administrations of Cizîrê, Kobanê and Efrîn.”

A statement released by the coordinating body condemned the barbaric attacks..
The statement read: “ISIS gangs carried out this barbarıc attack against civilians, mostly women and children, and showed their complete disregard for the values of humanity. As a result of this attack, which was carried out by these gangs after they have been defeated in the battles of Kobanê, Til Hemîs and Til Berak, dozens of civilians celebrating Newroz were killed and hundreds more were wounded.”
The statement also declared three days of mourning for the victims of the attack in the Cizîrê Canton. It also offered condolences to the families of the injured and the dead and wishes of a speedy recovery on behalf the Coordinating Body of the Rojava Cantons and promised to continue their struggle.
It ended with a call for people to join in the funeral processions of the martyrs and to support their families.” source: The Rojava Report: https://rojavareport.wordpress.com/2015/03/21/three-days-of-mourning-declared-for-victims-of-newroz-attack/

But these are certainly not the first casualties the Rojava kurds (and Rojava arabs and assyrians and Syriacs) have sustained in their own ”war on terror”. Hundreds of YPG/YPJ fighters have fallen in the battle against ISIS and in february about two hundreds assyrians were abducted by ISIS.

Why Arming the Kurds Is the Only Option

"Kurds constitute the biggest stateless minority in the world, with a population of roughly 30 million, divided mainly between Turkey, Iran, Iraq and Syria. They have been bombed in Turkey, executed in Iran, gassed in Iraq and besieged in Syria. Oh, and betrayed by the west. Repeatedly."

West neglects suffering of Syrian people by limiting focus to anti-terrorism campaign: Politician - ARA News

"

“The majority of Western citizens, who constitute the prevalent public opinion there, do not have time and willingness to make the effort and thoroughly seek the actual reality of the complexity of the Syrian situation. Western governments usually take advantage of public opinion, especially if it is in favor of their interests and consistent with their agendas,”"

Has a Christian Holocaust begun? When will West wake up to ISIS threat

"The examples of Western inaction are unending.
At present, as many as 300 Assyrian Christians remain in captivity having been kidnapped two weeks ago as ISIS assaulted ten Assyrian, Christian villages along the Khabour River in Syria.  That assault was conducted by a group of ISIS fighters travelling in a convoy of more than 40 clearly marked ISIS vehicles directly toward these vulnerable, Christian villages.
How is it possible that Western satellites didn’t spot a forty-car ISIS convoy in route to unarmed Christian villages in Syria, and if it was spotted how is that it wasn’t destroyed?
Over and over again, our coalition leaders have demonstrated that they aren’t as serious as they need to be about this threat and it’s time that we put increasing pressure on governments to do more. Now."

"In the last few months we have watched in horror as ISIS sympathizers have attacked innocent people, businesses and governments in at least the United States, Canada, France, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Belgium.  Even as we’ve watched wanna-be jihadists travel to and from America and Europe on western passports to fight in the ISIS jihad themselves.
Their propaganda machine is causing mega-corporations like Google and Twitter to struggle to keep up with the amount of jihadist propaganda showing up online every single day, and, shockingly, one study recently noted that one-in-five Arabic language tweets in the United States and the United Kingdom referencing ISIS were in “support” of the organization.
The fact is, we will deal with this crisis there or we will deal with it here.
Not dealing with it seriously is simply not an option.
We expected Syria would fix itself as well.
And what did it get us?
ISIS."

”resolution on recent attacks and abductions by Da’esh in the Middle East, notably of Assyrians”

I, Heine Strømdahl,  am grateful that The European Parliament passed a nonbinding ”resolution on recent attacks and abductions by Da’esh in the Middle East, notably of Assyrians”  a few days ago. The resolution is comprised by many small paragraphs.. it says among others : "Calls upon the international coalition to do more to prevent abductions of minorities, such as
the abduction of hundreds of Assyrian Christians in northern Syria; underlines the
importance of ensuring a safe haven for the Chaldeans/Assyrians/Syriacs and others at risk in
the Nineveh Plains, Iraq, an area where many ethnic and religious minorities have
historically had a strong presence and lived peacefully alongside each other;.....whereas on 23 February 2015 an estimated 220 Assyrians were abducted by ISIS/Da’esh
near Tell Tamer on the southern Khabur River bank in north-east Syria; whereas during the
same campaign the extremists also destroyed properties and holy places of the Christians;
whereas dozens of Assyrians were killed during the IS assault; whereas IS reportedly issued
a declaration in February 2015 requesting Assyrian villages in the Syrian Hasaka Province to
pay the jizya, a tax on non-Muslims dating to early Islamic rule and abolished in 1856 across
the Ottoman empire, to convert to Islam or else be killed; whereas major ISIS/Da’esh attacks
have been reported on Assyrian Christian towns in the Khabur River area since 9 March
2015;;
K. whereas since 1 March 2015 ISIS/Da’esh has released several dozen Assyrians, mostly
infants and elderly people, following negotiations with tribal leaders, but most Assyrians are
still held captive and the terrorists have threatened to kill them if the coalition bombings do not stop" http://www.europarl.europa.eu/sides/getDoc.do…

det kurdiske sprog - i Danmark

Kurdisk skrives både med arabiske, latinske og kyrilliske bogstaver. Alligevel er det ét sprog

Kurder i Danmark

Subject: FREE KURDISH GIRL SHILAN OZCELIK and send weapons to YPG NOW!
Date: Fri, 13 Mar 2015 17:39:13 +0000

FREE KURDISH GIRL SHILAN OZCELIK and send weapons to YPG NOW!

Dear Honorable Minister Theresa May.

Thanks for your dedicated service to the wonderful country of Great Britain!
I strongly urge you to
1: Send heavy weapons to YPG/YPJ now! I said now!
2: Take contact with Rojava representatives and trust them when they promise that these weapons are not going to be used against Turkey.

3: Free SHILAN OZCELIK.
4:Send military advisors to Rojava to help them in their fight.
5: Reconsider and ultimately remove the PKK from the list of terrorist organisations – I must acknowledge it is a somewhat thorny issue and I won't pretend to be an expert, but is it right to demonize millions of peaceful kurds, who simply seek autonomy and recognition, not independence from Turkey? (At least as far as I understand it!)

Please consider my thoughts with regard to this fivefold appeal:

It is an unjust act by The UK GOVT to jail and prosecute SHILAN OZCELIK, who wanted to go and join the kurdish YPG/YPJ and in this way help her suffering people in Syria – at least as far as I understand it! I respectfully call for immediate release of this innocent young woman, and I want those who jailed her to be held to account for this unjust act. Why are you – our elected politicians - not helping YPG in their fight against ISIS? Why are you so passive? Why are you not sending them weapons? - weapons sorely needed and weapons they themselves HAVE ASKED for a long time ago. How many (YPG/YPJ) kurds (and Assyrians and Syriacs) will be buried today and tomorrow because we – or our politicians - in Europe apparently flatly refused to help them with heavy weapons?

Only because our politicians fear the ”intimidating turks”? I simply can't see any other intelligent explanation for this omission. Former PM Blair is right when he says: "former Prime Minister Tony Blair warned yesterday that Western governments have not fully grasped the scale of the threat posed by militant Islamism and need to be prepared for a “long haul” to defeat it.

We have not yet understood the depth of this problem, and the need for a comprehensive strategy to deal with it,” he said. “It is not just Islamic State in Iraq and Syria... It is happening day in and day out – there are thousands of people losing their lives every few weeks.” i

The European Parliament passed a nonbinding ”resolution on recent attacks and abductions by Da’esh in the Middle East, notably of Assyrians” just two days ago! It says among others

Encourages the cooperation with newly emerging regional and local forces, such as the Kurdish Regional Government in Iraq, Kurdish groups elsewhere, such as the role of YPG in the liberation of Kobane, and the Syriac Military Council, as well as local self-governing entities in the region which have shown more commitment to human rights and democracy than their countries’ rulers; salutes, in particular, the courage of the Kurdish Peshmerga forces who have done so much to protect endangered minorities; ”ii

With the support from The European Parliament
Should we not then help the brave men and women in YPG/YPJ with the heavy weapons they so desperately need??
It is worth noticing that an increasing number of arabs are joining the YPG, and assyrians and syriacs are also fighting alongside the YPG/YPJ – or within the ranks of YPG/YPJ. iii”all are fighting in one trench, shoulder to shoulder, to repel this terrorist organisation that targets the lives of unarmed civilians...” Press release from YPG:  https://twitter.com/Rojekazad/status/576398631416303616

I therefore strongly urge you to

Arab fighter in Kobanê: YPG defends the fraternity of peoples
SEDAT SUR - KOBANÊ 14.01.2015 11:00:11
Arab YPG fighter Şevger Himo said that the ranks of the YPG were a place where young people from all over the world who wanted democracy could meet.
Himo, an Arab from the Cizîrê Canton, who spoke to ANF said he joined the YPG 3 years ago, and three months ago came to Kobanê oh his own volition to join the resistance. Four of Himo's brothers are also involved in various institutions in Rojava.
The egalitarian nature of the revolution
Şevger Himo said he had lived in Qamişlo (Qamishli) for a long time and become acquainted with the Kurdish Freedom Movement through his elder brother, but our loyalty to and belief in the Kurtdish movement really developed after the revolution in Rojava."
With the gun given him by his father
Şevger Himo said he had received his call up papers from the regime, adding: ''I didn't want to do military service for the regime, I preferred to join the YPG, which is defending the Rojava revolution. My family supported this decision, as the revolution represents the unity of peoples. When I joined the YPG it had limited capabilities and my father gave me his own AK47."
Went to Kobanê before his wounds had completely healed
''After I had joined the YPG 3 years ago my elder brother İshak Himo joined the public security and two other brothers joined the struggle in different institutions." He added that the YPG defended the whole of Rojava, and that when attacks began on Kobanê he wanted to go there, but had had to wait until he was discharged from hospital after being wounded in a clash in Hesekê. Himo said he had been in Kobanê for 3 months, and that the defence of that city meant the defence of the Rojava revolution that was the democratic future all the peoples and beliefs in Syria and Rojava. ''A great resistance is going on here. We are opposing ISIS attacks inspired by Leader Apo, and wherever ISIS attacks we will oppose them."
Enemy of peoples and faiths
''If there hadn't been a resistance in Kobanê, ISIS, acting in the name of the Arab people, would have carried out a massacre," said Şevger Himo, adding that ISIS was the enemy of peoples and faiths in the Middle East. 'As an Arab, I call on the Arab people to support the YPG, which believes in democracy and defends the fraternity of peoples, against the savagery of ISIS."
Himo said he had not once encountered any prejudice or negative views towards the Arab people since he had joined the YPG, adding that peoples from many different places had joined the organisation. Şevger Himo said he had been profoundly influenced by Rojvan, an Iranian who he met in Kobanê and who fell in December. He added that that the ranks of the YPG were a place where young people from all over the world who wanted democracy could meet.
A joint struggle
Şevger Himo said it was not just one city that was being defended, but that the resistance in Kobanê and the Rojava revolution represented the joint struggle of all oppressed peoples in the region and worldwide.
He said that although many young women and men from Kobanê were involved in the resistance, some had left the city, and he called on them to return and take their places in the resistance.
