Battling the Spread of Cholera:

A clean water project and hygiene education are making a difference in rural communities in Niger. Death lurks in the Niger River. Its name is cholera, a disease caused by a bacteria found in contaminated water. In remote towns in the southwestern region of Niger where there is little access to clean water, the polluted river is the only source for bathing, washing clothes and dishes, watering animals, and drinking.
Latrines are rarely found in the area, causing even more pollution in the river from human waste.
The combination of dirty water, a lack of hygiene education, and poor practices led to a severe cholera outbreak. More than 2,000 cases of the disease and dozens of deaths were reported.
Samaritan’s Purse is working to combat cholera by installing water filters, providing hygiene education and soap, and building......"
